Rita Beckett is an attorney, wife and mother to Colton age 7 and Genevieve age 4. Rita Akehurst-Beckett graduated from Loyola Law School in New Orleans in 1999. She was first in her class in Moot Court and went on to place second in the International Moot Court Competition. Rita graduated cum lade from Towson University in Maryland, with a degree in Political Science. She was awarded the Maryland General Assembly Intern of the Year.
Sadly Rita was diagnosed with arthritis in her twenties. Rita is a Board Member for the Arthritis Foundation in Houston serving as the Co-Chair of Board Development and 2014 Houston Bone Bash.
As a Board Member, Rita advocates for medical advancement for the 53 million Americans suffering from arthritis. Rita’s family is no stranger to this disease, losing their beloved Grandmother at the age of fourty-four to arthritis. Rita and her husband, Lee Beckett, CEO of Audubon Companies, raise funds and speak publicly about the disability and severe pain caused by Arthritis. It is their life's mission to find a cure for this disease and end the suffering it has caused their family and all those afflicted with arthritis.
